Received these from Portugal. Some of my translation on things on the tin may be a tad off. I love the art on the front of the tin. Oil ran out when the tin was popped open. Four medium-sized sardines to the tin. A very mild flavorful fish, very clean tasting. No after-taste at all. Some of the fish had small patches of scales left on. The fish still possessed their lungs. A very meaty succulent fish. I would definitely eat again. I give these guys five sardines. I would like to see these come to the states.

I had a "variety pack" of sardines kindly brought back by friends who visited Portugal recently. The Pigo doce olive oil (green can) was one. I was sadly disappointed, the fish was so mushy I couldn't even get it out of the can without it breaking into bits. The flavor, while not bad, was nothing special. I believe it was quite costly as well.
ReplyDeleteOne of the others I've tried so far is the Nuri brad. I think this is as good a tin of sardines as I've had. I realize it's all subjective, but that's my two cents anyway.
Thanks for your review. I often times wonder about quality in different canning batches. When possible, I try to sample two tins of one brand before reviewing. The green can in my trials, was the only one out of the three I cared for. Nuri is a good tin of fish. I haven't added any of those yet. Keep popping them tins!
ReplyDeleteFish do not have lungs. They have gills.I mean no offence.
ReplyDeleteha ha ha.. No offense at all! I'm surprised it took someone this long to catch that. I have other "fish tales" hidden in other posts. My way of seeing if people actually reads the reviews or just looks at the pics. Send me your contact info with your address to mouthfullofsardines@gmail and i'll send you a MFOS decal. Keep popping those tins!
