A strong smoke aroma upon opening. The smoke flavor hits you on the first bite. Almost a chewy consistency to the Fish. They taste like leather smells. It is a slight fishy after taste, not tin to eat by themselves; these may be good in a dish of sorts. I would not eat again alone. 1 1/2 Sardines

Sardine Fillets, Pure Maple Syrup, Salt

The smoke aroma hits you hard on opening. The fillets are all sort of formed together into a fish block. The smoke flavor is mild yet very detectable; the sweetness of the syrup follows behind the smoke flavor, and the sweetness of the syrup really balances out well (not too sweet). Fish has a lovely dark color to it from the smoking process, a good textured fish; not dry as some fillets can be. This can go well with saltines, adding a sweet and salty combination. No fishy taste or after. I'm pleasantly surprised, would eat again. 5 Sardines

A faint smoke aroma upon opening, followed by a subtle pepper aroma. Three nice slices of pepper to the tin. A good textured fish, heat from the pepper slowly creeps up. A well-balanced smoke flavor to the tin. No strong taste or after. Definitely, a tin to share or the likes. would eat again. 4 1/2 sardines

  1. I enjoy the smoked sardines. I have them on crackers, although I'll agree that the initial bite is a shocker.

  2. I think the Bar Harbors are closer to kippers than sardines. Agree on the rating.

    1. The back side of the tin lists the species in the ingredients and it's Atlantic herring. Close enough, still good.
