A strong smoke aroma hits you upon opening—a firm-textured fish, four fish to the tin. Smoke flavor completely over-powers the fish, a dry fish. Two sardines.

OVERALL:
Four fish to the tin. One large one, two med, and one small. (What a variety). Appearance is a little off-putting; mustard sauce floating on oil in the tin. No aroma when opened. A soft fish almost dissolves in your mouth. A fishy after-taste. Wouldn't buy it again. An unpleasant lingering after taste. Give these one sardine.

Not pretty at all, four to a can. Firm fish. Almost has a canned tuna taste...slightly—no fishy taste or after taste.
I give it a strong two.

OVERALL:
A Pleasant aroma upon opening, fish posses a decent texture, a very seasoned tin of fish. Garlic is very detectable. Not spiny at all. Sixteen fish to the tin. Other than being a tad too salty for me, this is a good tin. Chicken of the sea is moving up. I'll give the guys 4 strong sardines. No more, based on the salty factor.

OVERALL:
A very mild aroma upon popping. A very attractive tin of fish. They have good texture, All possess their tails—a very good tin of fish. My only dislike is all the sodium. A very salty tin of fish. A strong 4 1/2. Only because of the saltiness of these guys, they don't get a five.

OVERALL:
Skinless and Boneless should be used lightly here—full of bones and patches of skin. The texture is as if you are chewing on rubber. The taste is not much better, almost like eating dry-rotted rubber. Not a tin I would ever consider eating again. I've still not figured out what happened to chicken of the sea. No sardines.

A faint oil/smoke aroma upon opening. Four medium, plump fish to the tin. A medium-textured fish. The smoke flavor is detectable; smoke flavor does not overpower the fish.; nor does it take your breath away. Salt is detectable. A god cheap tin of fish. 4 Sardines.

A slight fish aroma upon opening. Four medium fish (that fills) to the tin. A soft textured fish. No strong taste or after. A neutral-tasting fish (a blank canvas) Would pair well and take on whatever flavors and or sauces you added to it. 3 1/2 sardines. (due to the softness) Would eat again. (for .99, I will)

A faint spice aroma upon opening, a medium heat hits you on the first bite. Four fish to the tin, a medium textured fish, nop strong flavors or after, all I can taste is the sauce overpowering the fish. not a sprint fish. I would eat gain 3 1/2 Sardines.

Three fish to the tin, A subtle olive aroma upon opening (not as visibly appealing as their older version of Mediterranian style), A medium textured fish, holds its shape well while removing from tin. A bland fish, nothing really pops with this tin; the flavor of the oil and spices taste as if they've been greatly diluted of flavor. Not a spiny fish. I wouldn't eat again. 1 Sardine

OVERALL:
A strong lemon aroma upon opening, A soft textured fish, almost to the point of being mushy. fifteen fish to the tin, fifteen assorted size fish! A sardine variety pack, large, medium, small, extra small. No strong flavors, no prominent lemon flavor; the lemon flavor is almost undetectable. No aftertaste, not a spiny fish. For the price, I would eat again.

  1. I love this product. Since discovering it at Big Lots, this is a regular part of my diet. I am not a sardine purist but enjoy these a lot. I would give this a 4.

  2. I notice in some of your reviews, you specifically mention tails. Is the presence of tails a good thing or a bad thing? How does that factor into your reviews?

    1. Tails do not affect my reviews. Personally, I like and don't notice the tails. Tails can actually be used to show signs of freshness before the canning process. (scales too) I've received a variety of emails about tails and fins; so I include them in my description.

  3. I've had these before, but recently I had two or three cans that were total crap. They looked horrible when opened and actually made me sick. And yes, I know what a defective can looks like. These were in perfect condition and popped when I broke the seal.
